Child Maltreatment & Safeguarding
Breaking the cycle of abuse through protection, training, and system reform.
PAHCHAAN is a national leader in child protection, developing scalable, frontline systems to prevent and respond to child maltreatment across Pakistan. Our work is grounded in early identification, trauma-informed care, and institutional capacity building — ensuring that vulnerable children are not only seen but protected.
Key Initiatives:
- Hospital-Based Child Protection Units (HCPUs): Operational in major hospitals, these units serve as safe spaces for the identification, documentation, and management of child abuse cases.
- Child Protection Case Management and Referral System: Established to link hospitals, police, welfare departments, and the courts in ensuring timely, coordinated responses.
- Child Protection Network: Active in 19 districts of Punjab, bringing together school staff, health workers, and communities to detect and report abuse.
- Safeguarding Trainings: Delivered to teachers, school administrators, and service providers on child protection protocols, psychological first aid, and referral systems.
- Alternate Caregiver Training: Empowering those caring for vulnerable children — from orphanages to community homes — with skills in trauma care and safe, nurturing practices.
